Paste Oddity

Wow, another celebrity sighting but this time we had to look a little higher. Well, figuratively speaking that is.
While looking at these barred windows in the 18b Arts District, we happened to spot a tiny hand painted portrait of Chris Hadfield. The Canadian astronaut that famously recorded a cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity while aboard the International Space Station, and even made a video to accompany the song! We love his tribute and we love this little tribute on a 228 to him. Which looks like a mix of (from what we can tell) ink, paint and some watercolors that make this a fun find from There She Is. Who has been putting up flyers as well as artwork for a gallery show with her art partner You Killed Me First at Eden Art Studio & Gallery, seems like these two are trying to make a leap from the grime to the gallery. We wonder how that'll all go down, stay tuned to find out.

Window Display

Man, Dekoe is one busy individual! Between doing live painting events and huge murals, he still finds time to get up with some new wheatpaste pieces. This grouping of artists was spotted on the corner of Casino and Charleston in the 18b Arts District, and this spot always seems to have something pasted on it as of late. It is good to see these staying up and new artwork being added on the regular, they seem to buff all the larger pieces that were just to the left of these. But these can stay, no idea why but we are just glad they are there. Dekoe gives us four versions of his trademark character, one large tiled black and white combined with a few different colored versions below. Also on the scene, we have There She Is and You Killed Me First with new art as well. There She Is with a hand painted Madame Leota from Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, and well that is a switch! Usually its her art partner YKMF that would be the one paying tribute to the theme park ride, but not this time and we like it! YKMF with another one of his spooky looking Quija pieces in the shape of a coffin to dig a little deeper into the unknown, so to speak. Finally we have a bunch of the usual boring tags and some ads for some show we don't even care about, so yeah those flyers are working great! Great job!

The Cleaners

We spotted a couple of new hand painted pasters from There She Is and You Killed Me First in between downtown and The Strip. Right in front of Super Cleaners, on Las Vegas Blvd and Gass to be exact. Since relocating from Los Angeles to Las Vegas a few years ago, these two have been working together hand and hand in the streets to make their presence known. Be it with small black and white pasters or with huge neon colored pieces, they are felt on the streets to be sure. There She Is offers us an image of the Gorgon sister better known as Medusa, with her trademark large eyes and pouty lips make this a striking portrait. Complete with snakes slithering around on her head as hair, she beckons you closer with her gaze to meet your fate. What will it be, hmmm? You Killed Me First continues his tour of Disneyland (so to speak) with another on of his Haunted Mansion plaque takeovers. YKMF has been using the Disney theme park as inspiration for street art for years, and apparently he isn't going to let up any time soon. It seems to us that these two have been inspired as of late, as we keep spotting new pieces from the duo around town. We can't wait to see what new and well, sometimes warped new artwork they will get up with. Stay tuned!

Asian Eyes

Another trip Downtown to the Art Motel finds the entrance updated with another round of fresh artwork. Joining Anilyz Something and Skull Capper on the front we have new pieces from There She Is and You Killed Me First. YKMF with another one of his Frankenstein movie posters, this time updating it to a red version. We still enjoy the addition of the Las Vegas skyline under The Monster's feet, a fun little detail that makes this piece feel complete. But this time it is the piece from There She Is that really grabbed our attention. Known for using completely hand-painted pieces to get up all around town, she sticks to her normal M.O. but gives us a little something new with this piece by using Asian newsprint to paint her latest portrait on. The perfect placement of the Asian characters under her painted eyes make it look as if she has been crying, like her eyeliner is running or something. Combined with that sad look on her face, it just completely makes this piece for us. What a wonderful new addition to this spot, can't wait to see more!

Neon Nights

There She Is and You Killed Me First hit the 18b Arts District with some large new pieces to announce their return to the street. These pieces have been painted such bright neon colors that we could see them a few blocks away, a technique that these two have used before with much success. We always enjoy how the two artists paint with the same colors to match the others piece, they take being a couple to new levels within their artwork. There She Is offers us one of her painted ladies with her always present large eyes, with all the paint drips all around she appears to be crying. The pieces she paints can have the most forlorn and yet beautiful faces to them, combined with the almost subliminal tears really makes this piece grab your attention. Plus the fact that its about 4 foot tall doesn't hurt either! You Killed Me First with another tribute piece to Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. We've seen him use quite a bit of artwork based on the theme park ride, so we are definitely feeling the artists love when we spot them. Using pieces from the Haunted Mansion clock and an eroded typeface from the attraction ride, then adding a distressed and splattered effect by hand to finish it off. These two pieces work really well together, just like these two apparently work well together in real life. Let's hope we see more artwork from them around town, and soon.

Sci-Finds

We spotted these pieces from the Los Angeles to Las Vegas transplant street art couple You Killed Me First and There She Is still riding behind a fence in the 18b Arts District. One thing about these two is that you can always count on seeing them together, no matter what their artwork is and no matter where it is. They are a team within the world of street art but also a real couple in real life, and they make it work to their advantage by hitting multiple spots with pieces that use the same theme. This time (to make complete liars out of us) they use completely different inspirations for their artwork, and with a little research we find There She Is inspired to do a crazy hand painted mashup up of silent movie star Clara Bow and The Borg from Star Trek! Next to her is You Killed Me First with a Ouija planchette that incorporates the game board and a message to "Get Up, Stay Up", stained brown and with what looks like burns around the edges. These pieces have been there for awhile from what we can tell, and look to be lasting long. We hope to see more combined efforts of these two artists in the Las Vegas streets, and soon.

There She Was

While heading downtown we spotted the Skull Capper (that is what we are gonna call him from now on) hit another hand painted piece. This time There She Is gets her hand painted Houdini piece capped with those bad photocopies of an even worse image, four of them to be exact. We still don't get it, why the hell someone is capping hand painted pieces?! Is it envy? Is it jealousy of other artists skills? Are you trying to make some point, cuz it is completely lost on us and anyone that sees them. This person seems hellbent on trying to make some point, but the only one we are getting is that you are a bad artist and an even worse street artist. Only time will tell if this person will cap the wrong art and/or get caught in the process, the clock has been ticking for awhile on this one.

Happy Holidaze

More new pieces downtown in the Fremont East district from street art duo There She Is and You Killed Me First. There She Is with a huge handpainted Hunter S. Thompson piece, complete with cigarette and his every-present filter. We really love the drips coming off his glasses and the addition of gold paint when hit by the right light makes his sunglasses look mirrored. It makes the whole piece elevated with this special touch, a great idea and look brought to the streets! You Killed Me First joins his partner with pieces on either side of the electrical box, on one side a return to the "Indexing" street sign takeover seen previously. As well as a new image of the classic Girl Vampire Halloween mask ad but just a little more "fabulous", with added drag makeup and finished off with a bunch of tiny text following the border. When we first spotted these images while driving we could have never guesses that there was another There She Is image still riding on the box! A Suicide Robot that must have been there for months and months, sun bleached and a little torn but still riding strong....well for a dead robot that is!

Double Feature

Street Art duo There She Is and You Killed Me First get up on an electrical box on the corner of Fremont and 6th with some movie inspired pieces. There She is with a pair of images, on one side we have silent movie star Buster Keaton with his signature blank look on his face. While most artists try to paint color and life into their pieces, its interesting to see someone paint the man known as "The Great Stone Face". Her use of black and white paint just solidifies the overall feel of this piece, and that look is just perfect. Joined by some sort of wood nymph of sorts on the other side of the box, maybe we should know this from a movie but, hmmm we can't place it! On the front we have You Killed Me First with a complete movie poster takeover with this tribute to Frankenstein, but now the Monster is in Las Vegas and terrorizing the streets complete with the Vegas skyline, paste bucket and pieces under his arm. We like how he has included with original credits from the film poster, we love little details like that. Cuz honestly, we are just as big of film nerds as these two artists apparently are.

Extended Stay

More additions are being added to the boarded up Art Motel from this years Life Is Beautiful festival, this spot has more out of town artists than local at this point too! Kinda cool! First up, San Francisco based artist Strider gets up with a diamond shaped piece of a praying woman in front of flowers. The image of the woman is interesting as it looks like some sort of digital stencil placed on a vectorized flower image, it has sort of a retro feel without relying on nostalgic imagery. Hinting within art is sometimes way more effective, at least to us. Also showing up late to the party, You Killed Me First and There She Is get up with their new pieces. YKMF with paster of the old Life Is Beautiful logo re-appropriated to remind us that in Sin City evil is also beautiful, I'm sure people will love that one. Lastly There She Is who likes to use the same colors to match her partner with her street pieces, she gives us a redhead with purple lips and blue eyes that will meet your gaze from way down the street. As this year comes to a close, the 18b is slowing down with street art and downtown is gaining speed as the location to get up. We wonder if it'll flip again, or will both spots start to even out artwise. We are guessing that only time will tell, and we can't wait!

Are Friends Electric?

Back behind the Downtown Spaces we found a wide selection of artists and art on the back utility boxes. A group ranging from Recycled Propaganda, Avantarded, There She Is, You Killed Me First, 3RDi, 3 Bad Sheep and some evil ass looking Grinch stencil that is awesome! Plus a bunch of others that are great but we just don't know who they are! So sorry, no credit or props for you this time! Cool to catch these different artists with different styles and techniques in this little private street art show.

Trashy Art

Hanging out behind the Downtown Spaces complex we found a wealth of artwork from multiple artists. But our favorite thing we saw had to be this dumpster covered in tags and pieces but with a discarded makeshift sign stuffed inside. Not sure who or what this was for but it does have a date on it, and it used to be a door! Well we thought it was pretty amusing and seemed like a good photo op and post at the time, maybe the heat got to us......

United in Paste

The street art duo You Killed Me First and There She Is return to the18b Arts District with new and colorful pieces, above a Shye Bunnysuit image that is ripped and wasting away in the sun. YKMF with a stylized street sign takeover of the Clark County Indexing signs, been stuck in traffic lately? Then you know exactly what sign we mean! There She Is offers up something new with her take on a Circus Sideshow image of the "Two Faced Man". Both artists originally hailing from Los Angeles before relocating to Las Vegas, are always seen together on the streets and even sometimes in fine art galleries. The couple that pastes together, apparently stays together!

Art + Partners = Artners

It has been said that there are two certainties in life, death and taxes. Well you can add a third if we are talking about street art. Since first appearing in and around Los Angeles, art duo There She Is and You Killed Me First have been consistently getting up together. Since then they have branched out with their art and are still reaching to hit the good spots. Two completely different artists using different styles but always using colors to compliment the other artists work, and they seem to be having quite a good time on the streets together!

H2-Oh-No!

There She Is pays a visit to Fremont East with a hand painted wheatpaste of her most popular piece, Suicide Robot! This poor little guy pasted to the side of an electrical box looks like he had just about enough and just couldn't take it anymore. He got in the tub, plugged in and checked out. What a horrible way to go and yet he looks so peaceful in his robotic sleep. Nighty night little guy, sleep well...forever.

Street Maintenance

Local artists There She Is and You Killed Me First return to the 18b Arts District to reclaim the wall on Charleston and Casino. These two artists have hit this spot numerous times, only to return with new pieces whenever they get buffed or removed. There She Is with a piece from her Medusa and her Gorgon‬ sisters triptych that can be found slithering around town. Joined by You Killed Me First with a huge and vintage looking Ouija planchette to help you connect to the other side.

Crowded Corner

Artists are keeping the corner of 7th and Stewart busy by the looks of these two electrical boxes. The smaller of the two hit by Cyrcle, Aware Indecline, Olsenink, Stab the Princess, DJ EDOC and others. Meanwhile surrounded by tags, older pieces from There She Is and You Killed Me First joined by a new Ill Thinking piece are fading and rotting away slowly in the Las Vegas sun.

Black Rainbow

There She Is returns to the 18b Arts District with some religious iconography of her own.
Stickers of 80s cartoon character Rainbow Brite, dead and crucified, placed around the area.
Done in a multitude of colored ink pens on a black and white sticker with hand painted embellishments.
She looks so sad and serene hanging there in her colorful dress, but don't worry. I hear she comes back.

District of the Dead

You Killed Me First gets up in the 18b Arts District with a stylized version of an old movie poster,
combining the two movies "Dawn of the Dead" and his namesake "You Killed Me First" for this image.
The box to the right has There She Is with her hand painted robot grabbing lightening from the clouds.
These artists always appear together in the streets, sometimes working together to compliment each others art using the same colors and feel and sometimes in juxtaposition. Have a safe and Happy Halloween everyone!

Two Faced Team

You Killed Me First and There She Is team up to give concert goers an alternative to commercial logos
and an overkill of advertisements with new bright and colorful pieces for the Life is Beautiful festival.
